Winter Lowndes Grove Wedding
I couldn’t be more thrilled to share the most magical winter Lowndes Grove wedding featuring Liz and Chris! You’re in for a treat if you’ve never been to Lowndes Grove. This breathtaking waterfront estate, nestled on the historic Charleston peninsula, is an iconic venue that offers more than just a beautiful backdrop. Surrounded by towering live oaks and overlooking the Ashley River, it epitomizes Southern charm and low-country beauty.
Lowndes Grove: An Iconic Southern Estate
One of the most notable things about Lowndes Grove is its rich history. It’s distinguished on the National Register of Historic Places and showcases architecture from 1786. The main house, with its period furnishings, a sprawling piazza, and a grand lawn that opens up to the waterfront, transports you to another time. The panoramic views are jaw-dropping, particularly during sunset when the sky is painted with golden and rosy hues, making it the perfect setting for a wedding. There’s something so magical about how the light reflects off the Ashley River, creating a dreamy, almost surreal atmosphere.
The Beginning
Liz and Chris’s story is just as beautiful as their chosen venue. These two lovebirds met while attending USC, where they were neighbors. Sparks flew instantly, and after a few years of long-distance romance, a move to Charleston sealed the deal. And now, on their ninth anniversary as a couple, they said, “I do.” How perfect is that? Deciding on such a meaningful wedding date added an extra layer of sentimentality to their big day.
Lowndes Grove Wedding Inspiration
Most people think of colors, flowers, and decor elements when considering wedding themes, but Liz and Chris had a different source of inspiration for their day—family. For them, family didn’t just mean their relatives. It meant every person they love, every friend they cherish, and every relationship they’ve built over the years. That love for their chosen biological family was evident in every aspect of their celebration.
Liz’s decision to have 13 bridesmaids is a perfect example of how inclusive and family-oriented this couple is. In the South, it’s not uncommon to see larger wedding parties, and Liz certainly didn’t hold back when it came to including all of her closest friends and family in her bridal party. It was evident throughout the day that each guest was not just attending a wedding. They were part of a celebration that felt like one big family reunion. The atmosphere was warm, joyful, and brimming with love.
It is All in the Details
The family-centric focus didn’t stop at the guest list. It was woven into the design and decor of the wedding itself. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I could see how much thought and care had gone into creating a cozy, intimate environment. The long, rustic, family-style tables were a standout feature. They blended seamlessly with the natural beauty of the towering live oaks surrounding the space. Each table was adorned with lush greenery and neutral-toned florals, giving the setting a sense of elegance. The overall look was both timeless and luxurious.
The little details were swoon-worthy. J.Lily Design outdid itself, from the custom-dyed place cards to the glass table markers featuring modern calligraphy. Gold accents on the table settings, including plate chargers and flatware, added a rich, luxurious touch, making the tablescapes feel grand and inviting. The cozy lounge right by the water was a guest favorite, with cafe lighting strung above. It was the perfect place for everyone to relax after dinner and take in the stunning views of the waterfront.
Speaking of dinner, the food was just as exquisite as the setting. Family-style dining allowed guests to chat and connect. This reinforces that feeling of closeness and camaraderie. The laughter and conversations that filled the air during the reception were a testament to the bond Liz and Chris share with their loved ones.
The Vows
But before all the festivities kicked off, we had the most heartwarming ceremony on the grand lawn just as the sun descended. With the Ashley River shimmering in the background and the golden hour light casting a warm glow on everything, Liz and Chris exchanged their vows surrounded by the people who matter most to them. Something about that time of day makes everything feel extra magical. After the ceremony, I whisked the newlyweds away to take advantage of that soft, golden light for unforgettable portraits. They turned out to be some of my favorites to date. The love and happiness between Liz and Chris were palpable in every shot!
Let’s Dance
Once the sun had set, it was time to kick off the party! Under the twinkling string lights, Liz and Chris shared their first dance as husband and wife. It was such a sweet moment; you could tell how much it meant to them. After that, the Right to Party band took over. Let me tell you, they lived up to their name! The dance floor was packed all night, with young and old—dancing and celebrating. The energy was electric, and the joy in the air was contagious.
Liz and Chris had the most magical sparkler exit to cap the night. There’s something so special about a sparkler send-off. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a perfect day—surrounded by loved ones, basking in the glow of those tiny lights, and stepping into the next chapter of their lives together.
I’m so grateful to have been part of Liz and Chris’ wedding day. It was an honor to capture such beautiful moments and to witness the love they share with their family. Lowndes Grove provided the perfect backdrop for their celebration, and I’m sure everyone there will cherish this day for years to come.
