Cannon Green Wedding
As a wedding photographer, I can attest that a Cannon Green wedding is always elegant, modern, and timeless. The space is designed to be an intimate chic courtyard. Each Cannon Green wedding tells a unique story, and Jody and Ben’s wedding was no exception. Their special day was a beautiful blend of romance, vibrant colors, and unexpected weather, making it an unforgettable experience.
Setting the Scene: Cannon Green Wedding Venue
Unsurprisingly, Cannon Green is one of Charleston’s premier wedding venues. It is known for its charming combination of historic elegance and modern sophistication. The venue offers a picturesque courtyard, a stunning Trolley Room, and an exquisite Garden Room, each providing a perfect backdrop for wedding photos. The accents of plants, the ivy-adorned walls, and the elegant architecture of Cannon Green make it a photographer’s dream. I couldn’t wait to capture Jody and Ben’s special moments here.
The Couple: Jody and Ben
Jody and Ben are one of those couples who radiate love and joy. From the moment I met them, I could see how deeply they cared for each other. Their chemistry was palpable, which made my job as their photographer incredibly rewarding.
In addition to their chemistry, they are avid travelers. These two are always open to adventure. It isn’t uncommon for them to have recently enjoyed time abroad, skied a snowy slope, or bathed in the sun oceanside. Obviously, their enthusiasm for adventure had to be woven into the wedding, for instance, having a destination wedding in Charleston, SC.
Rain for Good Luck
The weather in Charleston can be unpredictable. We have a saying, “Just wait ten minutes, and it’ll change.” Jody and Ben’s wedding day was a testament to that. The skies were overcast, and it rained on and off throughout the day. While some might see this as a challenge, I saw it as an opportunity to capture truly unique photos.
Understandably, weddings do not always go as planned, but they go as they should. Therefore, when it rains, we pivot. Beautiful photos are still created in unforeseen situations. We were fortunate to have lovely window light for Jody and Ben at the getting-ready house. In addition, there were some stunning elements, like a bespoke carved wooden door. This setting created a great opportunity for timeless portraits focused on Jody and Ben’s interaction and love.
Getting Ready: The Anticipation Builds
The day began with Jody getting ready at a rental in historic Downtown Charleston. The room was filled with laughter, excitement, and happy tears as Jody slipped into her stunning wedding dress. The classic mermaid-style gown had delicate lace details. Jody completed her bridal look with a jeweled belt and lace sleeves.
Adding something old, Jody had a family heirloom locket. Jody’s bridal shoes provide a rock star edge thanks to Steve Madden’s spiky design. Her bridal bouquet, a vibrant mix of orange, pink, and blue flowers, perfectly balances a fall palette.
The First Look: A Moment to Cherish
One of the most touching moments of the day was Jody and Ben’s first look. We chose a room in the loft apartment for this intimate moment. The anticipation was palpable as Jody walked up behind Ben and tapped him on the shoulder. When Ben turned around and saw his bride for the first time, his face lit up with pure joy. They shared a quiet, emotional moment, which I was able to capture from a distance. Their love and connection are evident, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
Cannon Green Ceremony
The courtyard ceremony was set with natural wood chairs and a vibrant floral color palette their Cannon Green courtyard ceremony. The floral arbor is especially stunning, with shades of orange, pink, and blue.
As the ceremony neared, the skies opened. After a slight delay, everyone decided to stay the course and embrace what the weather may bring. Fortunately, there was only a drizzle during the ceremony. But a little rain couldn’t dampen the joy resounding within that courtyard.
As Jody walked down the aisle, escorted by her father, Ben’s eyes welled up with tears. The couple exchanged heartfelt vows, promising to love and support each other through life’s ups and downs. There wasn’t a dry eye as they sealed their vows with a kiss, officially becoming husband and wife.
The Reception: A Night to Remember
After cocktail hour, guests moved to the Trolley Room for the reception. The space was elegantly decorated with floral centerpieces and candles. Nods to the couple’s love for travel are seen throughout. Instead of numbers for the seating chart, tables were given a country the couple had traveled to. In addition, centerpiece decor included photos of the couple during their numerous adventures together.
Despite the intermittent rain, the mood was celebratory and joyous. Jody and Ben’s first dance was beautiful, with the couple swaying to their favorite song under the soft glow of candlelight.
One of the highlights of the reception was the speeches. From heartfelt toasts to sharing funny and touching stories about the couple, the laughter and tears flowed freely as family and friends celebrated the newlyweds.
Capturing the Details: From Decor to Dance Moves
As a photographer, I always aim to capture the little details that make each wedding unique. Jody and Ben’s wedding was filled with such moments. Every detail, from the intricate lace on Jody’s dress to the colorful floral arrangements, was thoughtfully chosen and beautifully executed.
One of my favorite photos from the day was of Jody and Ben standing under cafe lights in the courtyard at night. The rain had subsided, and they looked so happy and in love, sharing a private moment amidst the hustle and bustle of the day. Moments like these make wedding photography so unique.

Jody and Ben’s wedding at Cannon Green was a beautiful celebration of love, filled with vibrant colors, heartfelt moments, and a touch of unpredictable weather. Despite the rain, or perhaps because of it, the day was magical and full of charm. It was an honor to capture their special day and to witness the beginning of their journey as husband and wife.
Every wedding is unique, and Jody and Ben’s was a testament to the fact that sometimes, unexpected moments make the day truly memorable. The overcast skies and intermittent rain added a romantic and intimate feel, creating a beautiful backdrop for their love story.
