Isle of Palms Engagement Photographer
As an Isle of Palms engagement photographer, one of the most enchanting backdrops I have the pleasure of working with is the stunning beach during sunset. The golden hues, gentle waves, and serene ambiance create the perfect setting for capturing love in its purest form. I had the honor of photographing Julie and Eric’s engagement session at this beautiful location, and it was a magical experience.
The Setting: Isle of Palms Beach
Isle of Palms, SC, is a picturesque barrier island known for its pristine beaches and captivating sunsets. Located just a short drive from Charleston, it offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The beach is an idyllic spot for an engagement session, with its never ending stretches of sand, rolling dunes, and the gentle lapping of the Atlantic Ocean.
As an Isle of Palms engagement photographer, I often recommend this location to couples seeking a romantic and timeless backdrop for their photos. The beach provides a versatile canvas, with opportunities for playful shots in the surf, intimate moments among the dunes, and breathtaking images with the sun setting on the horizon.
When Jimi Hendrix Falls for a Pirate
Julie and Eric are a delightful couple whose love story is as captivating as the scenery around them. They met during their college years and quickly formed a deep friendship. Eric details how the couple first met, “Julie and I met on Halloween weekend at Ohio State in 2010 through Julie’s high school classmates who lived next to me in the dorms. Julie was a pirate and reprised the costume for several subsequent Halloweens. My costume was kind of a mash-up between Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley. We went to a party with a handful of other people and also ran into our college president. We started hanging out more regularly that Spring and were good friends before we started dating in 2013.”
She Said “Yes!”
Their journey has led them to move to another state, continue their education, and begin a new chapter in their love story. As for the proposal, each offered different insights. Eric outlines his proposal plan, “I snuck out early New Year’s Day and biked to Brown’s Court Bakery to pick up fresh bagels and donuts, along with some roses. When Julie woke up, she was surprised to hear she had ‘seven rings’ including 3 donuts, 2 bagels, an engagement ring, and a wedding ring with the last of these two hidden in her stocking. After hours of negotiation, she said, ‘Yes!’ Julie elaborates on the memory, “We picked the rings out together, so I knew it was coming, but I did not expect it to be first thing in the morning. I have years of practice sleeping through Eric’s alarm, so he was able to get up without waking me up. I’m a big coffee drinker, so a coffee and donut proposal was a nice surprise.”
After sixteen years, I still love hearing the history of friendship and love each couple shares with me. These unique stories give me insight into a couple’s personalities and their priorities during their engagement season of life.
Beachside Treats at Sunset
We began the session in the late afternoon with a perfect beachside treat: Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Julie and Eric wanted a playful, silly, and romantic session. So, sharing ice cream cones was a unique setting that perfectly embodied the vibe the couple wanted for their engagement session.
After a sweet beginning, we arrived at the beach. It was clear that Julie and Eric were at ease in each other’s company. Their natural chemistry and genuine affection shone through in every frame, making my job as their Isle of Palms engagement photographer an absolute pleasure.
The soft, diffused light provided a beautiful glow, perfect for capturing candid moments and playful interactions. Julie and Eric strolled hand in hand along the shore, their laughter mingling with the sound of the waves. I captured them as they ran into the crashing waves, Eric even spinning Julie around in his arms. Their carefree spirits are perfectly reflected in the photos.
As the sun began its descent behind the horizon line, we moved to a more secluded area of the beach, where the dunes offered a natural frame for some intimate shots. Julie and Eric sat close together, sharing sweet affirmations and affectionate kisses. The golden light bathed them in a warm embrace, creating a romantic and ethereal atmosphere.
Making the Session Unique
As an Isle of Palms engagement photographer, I always encourage couples to incorporate elements that are significant to their relationship or augment the visual story of their engagement. These details enhance the visual storytelling and make the images more meaningful and memorable for the couple.
Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream stand offered another backdrop for their photos. Enjoying ice cream cones facilitated sweet moments between the couple. Their playfulness comes out in the photos, and the scene is an interesting element not common in beachside engagement sessions.
Julie also brought along a sun hat to incorporate into the photos. An accessory or layering is a great way to create a variety of looks for the photos.
The Golden Hour: An Isle of Palms Engagement Photographer’s Dream
The golden hour, that magical time just before sunset, is every photographer’s dream. The light is soft, warm, and flattering, creating a natural glow that enhances the beauty of the subjects and the surroundings. The golden hour was nothing short of spectacular for Julie and Eric’s engagement session.
As the sun set lower in the sky, the colors became richer and more vibrant. The ocean took on a shimmering quality, reflecting the hues of the sky. Julie and Eric stood at the water’s edge, the waves gently hitting their feet. I captured them in a series of tender moments, their faces illuminated by the soft, golden light.
One of the highlights of the session was a frame of Julie and Eric sharing a kiss with the waves crashing around them. The sky was a canvas of warm hues. It was a picture-perfect moment that beautifully encapsulated their love and the romance of the evening.
